Schools Poster Competition 2010

This year the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of it’s Schools Poster Competition and here’s the chance for one of your pupils to become the star!

The Fringe Schools Poster Competition was launched in 1980, making it one of the longest-running arts outreach projects in Scotland. Over the past 29 years the competition has inspired over 100,000 school children (aged 5-16) from across the nation to create an image representing their interpretation of the world’s largest arts festival.

One budding artist will have their winning artwork turned into the official Edinburgh Festival Fringe poster for 2010. In addition the image will appear on a range of official Fringe 2010 merchandise. The winner and runners-up will also receive a cash prize for themselves and their school’s art department.
New to this year’s competition, a student’s artwork from each region of Scotland will be awarded a Special Commendation. The commended artwork will appear alongside the winner and runners up in an exhibition as part of the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Fringe Schools Poster Competition winner for 2009 was Mhairi Sedgewick (14) from Peebles High School.

Her design was chosen from thousands of entries from across Scotland as the judges felt it perfectly captured the energy and vitality of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

There is no set brief for the competition however the design guidelines, entry specifications and Terms and Conditions can be downloaded here. Take a look at some posters from previous years for inspiration.
