The spellbinding music, which brought blues singer Bessie Smith to the world's attention back in the 1920's, is recreated by local jazz singer Liz Dicks, in her one-woman Fringe show 'Bessie Smith and the Blues'. Liz takes us on a musical journey through the 1920s and early 1930s and captures the very essence of the Empress of the Blues. 'Liz can sing and swing a blues till the ceiling falls down, and then sing a ballad with such honesty, fragility and beauty, it makes the birds listen and cry.' (Liane Carroll)
