The Festival Fringe Society has announced the first members of its new Participants’ Council.

Nominations for the council opened in April, with participants, producers and venues having four reserved places each. With four valid nominations received in each of the produces and venues categories, and three nominations from performers, all nominees have been declared elected.

The Festival Fringe Society has established the Participants’ Council so that for the first time there is a direct opportunity for performers, producers and individuals from venues to have a say in how the Fringe Society is run.

The Council has been set up as part of the overhaul of the constitution of the Society. It is designed to make sure that those who take part in the Fringe can have a direct input into the issues being discussed by the Society’s Board.

In two years time half the current members will stand down and fresh elections will be held. Meanwhile the Board of the Festival Fringe Society have appointed board member Alister O’Loughlin to lead their engagement with the Participants’ Council.
