The Scottish Arts Club are delighted to announce the outstanding winner of this year's award (known as the Flying Artichoke) is Swallow by Stef Smith, a Traverse Theatre production, directed by Orla O’Loughin. The judges felt that its exploration of the extremes of modern living was brilliantly executed.

Second is Grid Iron Theatre Company’s Light Boxes, directed and adapted by Finn den Hertog, at Summerhall.

Third is The Gospel according to Jesus Queen of Heaven, written and performed by Jo Clifford and directed by Susan Worsfold, also at Summerhall

This is the fifth year of the Award and once again the judging panel who have seen over 60 Scottish Theatre productions on this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, were impressed by the evidence of both emerging and established talent within the Scottish Theatre scene and the overall high standard of production.

The Judges are proud of the fact that, over the years, they have spotted the potential in small and medium scale productions and the previous winners have all toured nationally and internationally.

The award will be presented by Mark Thomson, Artistic Director of the Royal Lyceum Edinburgh, at the Scottish Arts Club, Rutland Square, Edinburgh, on Sunday 30th August at 6.30 pm. The Club is most grateful to Pickering’s Gin for their support of the Awards
