Broadway Baby will launch the The Bobby’s this August, beginning with the Sixth Star Award for the finest of Broadway Baby’s five-star-reviewed shows. Sixth Star shows will be truly special - the judging panel might distribute just a few awards this year, or maybe none at all.

The judging panel, headed by producer and broadcaster Pete Shaw, will be looking for shows that stand out from the five-star crowd. Only shows already awarded five stars by a Broadway Baby reviewer will be eligible to enter the award.

Pete Shaw commented: "I’ve often wished we could give a show more than five stars - when something exceeds expectations in every area, makes us see the world a little differently, or just gives everyone a smile that lingers for days afterwards. There have been memorable occasions over the last few years when I’ve thought ‘this show is just so good, we need to tell everyone’. The Sixth Star Bobby lets the reviewers at Broadway Baby distinguish between the best and the very best shows at the Fringe."

The winners of a Sixth Star Bobby will be presented with a custom-made Bobby statuette and a Sixth Star certificate.

The Sixth Star is the first award to be part of The Bobby’s, a new scheme designed to showcase what’s best about the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Bobby’s are Broadway Baby’s contribution to the newly launched Festival Media Network Awards, which provide an umbrella for various awards presented by independent publications covering the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
