With the conclusion of week one of the Festival Fringe, the first round of awards have been announced.
The Scotsman Fringe Firsts have been awarded to seven shows premiering new writing. This is the 42nd year of the awards which are the longest-running theatre prizes at the festival.
The winners are A Gambler’s Guide to Dying (Traverse Theatre), Going Viral (Northern Stage @ Summerhall), The Christians (Traverse Theatre), Swallow (Traverse Theatre), The Deliverance (Assembly), Underneath (Dance Base) and The History of the World Based on Banalities (Summerhall).
The first group of Herald Angel award winners have also been announced. These are awarded to the best of the festivals’ performers, venues and backstage crew who have managed to impress The Herald's distinguished panel of arts critics.
The winners of this week’s Herald Angel awards are Correction (Zoo Venues) and Fake It ‘til You Make It (Traverse Theatre), and a Little Devil was awarded to the artists and producers of the Underbelly Circus Hub for overcoming adversity and, in the true tradition of the festival, demonstrating a 'show must go on' attitude.
The first round of Stage Awards for Acting Excellence have also been announced. These awards were created to recognise outstanding theatre performances by individuals and companies and are celebrating their 21st year at the festival.
The winners are Molly Vevers for her performance in Ross and Rachel (Assembly) and Aoife Duffin for her performance in A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing (Traverse Theatre).
The 2015 Awards page will be updated frequently as winners are announced.
