The Unexpected Mayfly follows a nobody – a man struggling with the search for purpose in his monotonous life. When a delayed performance unwillingly thrusts him into the spotlight, he seizes the opportunity to entertain the audience, not considering the consequences. In this emotional dark comedy we see the hilarious struggles of a man who constantly battles with his own self, often blaming the world around him for these challenges.

The Unexpected Mayfly

In False Tongues, Britt Fishel and Artists will share narrative pathways of the women accused of witchcraft globally in the 17th century. The work focuses around the women's peril, while navigating their place as scapegoats within their community. Through dance and performance, we hope to share truth where there are misconceptions, find empathy though lived experiences and examine a cautionary tale of mass hysteria, the dangers of superstition and the consequences of societal paranoia.

False Tongues

When Lindsay Lucas-Bartlett was growing up in Southend-on-Sea, sharing a home with her abusive bipolar father and drug addict brother, her dreams of escaping the stereotypical Essex girl’s fate consisted of (a) marrying Prince William, and (b) running away to the magical city of Los Angeles. But Prince William started losing his hair, and besides, what’s the point of swapping one dysfunctional family for another? Which leaves the other option...

Trust Me, I'm from Essex

Written and performed by Jason Woods, Bing! captivated New York audiences and critics, and received a 2023 Off-Broadway Alliance Award nomination for Best Solo Performance. Woods morphs into Jasper, Casper, the witch, the ghost, the dragon, the herald, the henchman, the witch’s mother and more with rapid–fire dexterity and heartfelt authenticity in this razor–sharp magical comedy about family and fantasy, and the lines we blur with both. In addition to writing and directing, Woods is also the composer of the John Williams–esque orchestral score for Bing!

Jason Woods tackles the madcap world of Wonderland, embodying every zany character in A Mad, Mad Wonderland! – from the anxious White Rabbit to the volatile Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat (who might sound suspiciously like Jack Nicholson) to Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (who might sound suspiciously like Jeff Goldblum and Alan Rickman). When the Queen of Hearts’ song vanishes, Alice must brave the chaos of Wonderland and its bizarre inhabitants to save the White Rabbit from a chocolate-dipped doom, rediscovering the magic she thought she'd outgrown.

Her performance weaves together personal narratives drawn from decades of queer experience, creating a powerful testament to living authentically while encouraging others to follow their dreams.

Tales From Your Queer Elder

'Buckle up! And hold on to what you can. This ride is gonna get bumpy, but them blessie’s need us'. The Red Cross nurse carries our soldiers out of sickness, out of darkness, back to the light of good health. During WWI, over 38,000 women and men worked as nurses, assistant nurses, ambulance drivers and cooks. This is their story. Over the course of a few days, we see a small glimpse of life through the eyes of a young nurse as she works with Lady Dorothy Feilding and the famous Munro Flying Ambulance Corps.

Penelope Quadrangle and the Meaning of Friendship

Island Spirit is a captivating musical where a young Polish woman returns to Scotland to trace her roots. She takes a job at a whisky distillery on a remote Scottish island, discovering the story of her mother, and the father she never knew. This Fringe-style performance offers original songs from the musical, in between which the tale unfolds as she learns about her family’s past and her own identity. The show features soulful melodies with Scottish musical influences, weaving together powerful storytelling and emotive songs. Beyond the Blue return to the Fringe with this heartfelt performance.

Island Spirit

Nik Narain's debut hour is a synthesis of science facts, embarrassing stories, and dad jokes following the life of a 21-year-old queer Indian-American "physicist", highlighting the power of tea-biscuits as trans metaphors. Narain is a recent graduate of Duke University who has performed his witty, energetic, and insightful comedy around the states. An award-winning screenwriter, Nik holds a background in neuroscience research and K-12 science engagement. He is committed to telling entertaining and accessible science stories for the stage and screen firmly grounded in LGBTQ+ and AAPI experiences.
