This grand building, distinguished by its three spires, filled with art and music, and surrounded by gardens and trees, is an oasis of calm in Edinburgh’s West End. Host to numerous recitals and concerts which take full advantage of the beautiful acoustic. The Song School, open for regular tours, is decorated with gorgeous murals by arts and crafts artist Phoebe Anna Traquair.

The free lunchtime recitals at St Mary's have a been a Fringe favourite for the last 20 years. Come and hear some of Edinburgh's best classical musicians, including singers, pianists, string quartets, wind quintets, choirs and more, all in the most beautiful acoustic in the city.

Come and hear three of Scotland's finest organists – Duncan Ferguson, David Goodenough and Imogen Morgan – performing three recitals of popular organ works from the last 400 years. In Edinburgh's St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, the finest acoustics in the city, on the famous 'Father' Willis organ. These free Sunday afternoon recitals are a perfect way to end the week.

The Requiem by Johannes Brahms is one of the all-time great pieces of choral music: by turns soothing and fiery, and always spectacularly beautiful. Sung here by the award-winning St Mary's Cathedral Choir, with pianists John Bryden and Joseph Beech, and conducted by Duncan Ferguson.

Cadenza's Fringe sell-out concerts (this year at St. Mary’s cathedral) are always a favourite with audiences. Under Director Timothy Coleman, Cadenza performs a jazz programme about the joy of singing, with Chilcott's Little Jazz Mass, jazz legend George Shearing's Songs and Sonnets, and Iain Farrington's joyous Then Sing We All. With BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022 Ewan Hastie on bass, Tom Gordon (BBC Big Band) on drums and the composer Iain Farrington himself on piano, this promises to be a very special evening!

Cadenza at the Fringe

The Cathedral Consort – made up of the professional singers and musicians at St Mary's Cathedral – sing famous hits of the 60s and 70s, re-imagined in exquisite vocal harmony. Come hear classics by Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, Elton John and more, all in the stunning acoustic of St Mary's Cathedral.
