New Zealand concert pianist Charles Whitehead makes his sixth solo appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Piano Masterworks Recital 2025

Ukraine’s BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Winner 2019 (opera), Andrii Kymach baritone returns to Edinburgh with rising star accompanist Jâms Coleman (piano) in a new recital, Ukraine, specially devised for 2025's Day of Ukraine Independence (24th August 2025). This follows his hugely successful 2024 recital Arias, which celebrated Edinburgh and Kyiv's 35th twinning anniversary (1989-2024). The historic 2025 event is supported by the Consulate of Ukraine and the Consulate Generals of Germany and France in Edinburgh.

Arias I: Nessun Dorma!

A recital in celebration of Ian Hamilton Finlay’s groundbreaking garden south of Edinburgh in his centennial year. Including music by Handel, Purcell and Vaughan Williams, as well as a new commission by John Hails.  Soprano Alison Bishop and pianist Stuart Hope take you on a journey through the gardens many glooms, with narration by head-gardener George Gilliland.

Songs for Little Sparta

The best operatic show on at the Fringe – over an hour of favourite arias and ensembles from the greatest composers, performed by the internationally-renowned bass singer Brian Bannatyne-Scott, with rising stars Emma Morwood (soprano), Catherine Backhouse (mezzo-soprano) and Magnus Walker (tenor), accompanied by the brilliant pianist Michal Gajzler in the glorious surroundings of the New Town Church in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town. Afternoon Arias

Concert pianist Ailsa Aitkenhead presents a moving rendition of Chopin’s virtuosic Ballade No1 in G Minor, and the profound Sonata in B flat D960 by Schubert. These pieces combine the sorrows of our shared humanity, along with profound hope in the power of connection and togetherness. This is also a unique opportunity to hear the live premier of Ailsa’s own composition, inspired by Chopin and Satie, and Chopin's glittering posthumous Nocturne in C sharp minor.

Big Band Swing

Poetry Without Words is a programme with primarily classical and romantic content, in a sense a nod to Schumann's song cycle Dichterliebe, from which songs will be performed in an interpretation for viola and piano, combined with works of the classical, romantic and slightly more modern period. Song is the focus of our performance; we have added Britten's Lacrymae which circles around John Dowland's song If My Complaints Could Passions Move, one of Beethoven's beautiful song-like romances, Pärt's haunting piece Fratres and Weber's cheerful Andante e Rondo Ungarese to the mix.
