China Coal Mine Art Troupe (China)
This compelling new music theatre piece, inspired by the Wei-Jin era’s Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove, reimagines the legendary final moments of Ji Kang. Before his execution in 263 CE, he played the guqin, a traditional Chinese musical instrument. In Echoes, this zither becomes a spiritual vessel, through which his companions confront grief, freedom and existential meaning. Blending music, drama and physical theatre, the narrative intertwines metaphysical dialogue with poetic defiance, mirroring the struggle of the sages to reconcile idealism with a chaotic world. Performed in Mandarin with English surtitles.
