Özen Yula's highly acclaimed play takes the audience on a journey to the Ottoman Empire in 1558. It tells the unofficial story of Roxelana, who rose from being part of the Sultan's harem to become an influential figure within the state, mastering the subtleties of state governance with her ambition for power, even to the extent of sacrificing her children. The storytelling is enhanced with shadow play and masks showcasing the unique style of Turkish theatre, as Selçuk Yilmaz's music takes the audience on a journey back in time with Ottoman melodies. English surtitles.
