Charles Whitehead
For his 2026 Piano Masterworks recital, New Zealand pianist Charles Whitehead presents a fascinating, new programme of Romantic and early 20th-century solo works. Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana is one of the cornerstones of the piano literature, featuring a kaleidoscopic range of ideas and music that is impulsive, dreamy and intensely emotional. By contrast, Alexander Scriabin’s Piano Sonatas No. 5 and 7 are shorter works, mystical, ecstatic and full of spontaneous musical movement. Prepare to be transfixed by the drama, unique musical poetry and colours of this powerful music!
