Hal Ashby
A US Marine Corps captain’s wife (Jane Fonda) finds herself drawn to a paraplegic war vet (Jon Voight) after her husband (Bruce Dern) leaves to fight in Vietnam. When her husband returns from the front, each one of them has changed immeasurably. Conceived and produced by Fonda, Coming Home is one of the earliest films to explore emotional as well as physical consequences of the Vietnam War. Hal Ashby’s compassionate, insightful indictment of the conflict's impact is an authentic, richly observed and deeply moving exploration of disillusionment, guilt and complex trauma, featuring extraordinary performances from its Oscar-winning cast.
