Venus Rising Theatre
Set in 1977, Damn the Dark follows five women navigating Soho's vibrant discotheque scene. Jean, a night-shift nurse, spends time with her sister Daphne, an aspiring housewife, and Daphne’s friend Layla, an ambitious journalist. The club’s regulars, Margot, a Gogo dancer, and Kim, a punk enthusiast, are each chasing their dreams. Amid rising violence and fear in the 1970s, these women unite through courage and activism, joining the Reclaim the Night march. This immersive production celebrates disco, punk and empowerment, inviting the audience to dance in solidarity with the characters.
