Why do people write ghost stories? Is it to explain away the fear, or to reveal the ghosts inside? Shirley is a dark and intimate one-person play, inspired by the life of Shirley Jackson and the ghost stories of M.R. James. Shirley has felt haunted her entire life. Haunted by her responsibilities, her husband and a story that’s been with her since childhood. But will writing a novel finally release the horror that has been manifesting in her for a lifetime? Praise for previous work: ***** (TheEdinburghReporter.co.uk). ***** (BroadwayBaby.com). **** (Scotsman). **** (Skinny).
