Alice Ripoll and Hiltinho Fantástico

A special preview of Puff, by choreographer Alice Ripoll and performer Hiltinho Fantástico. Disguise is an element present in dances of the African diaspora meant to transmit silenced cultures. 'Puff' in Portuguese can mean when something magically disappears. Hiltinho began dancing Passinho, an urban dance style born in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. He carries the ancestry of Brazilian dance, starting in Africa, moving through samba and capoeira. The show explores techniques such as extremely speedy steps and the dissociation of body parts, which promote illusion effects, and suggest that something is being hidden from our eyes.
