Howe Street Ensemble
Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) was employed as Maestro di Capella at the Ospedale Della Pieta in the great mercantile city of Venice. The strikingly simple interior of Edinburgh’s historic Canongate Kirk provides the Howe Street Ensemble, directed by Les Shankland, with a fine acoustic in which to sing some of Vivaldi’s most exquisite pieces. The programme includes the famous Gloria in D major, as well as Lauda Jerusalem, and the Vesper Psalm Beatus Vir.
