The new functions, made possible thanks to support from Fringe sponsor Johnnie Walker Princes Street, will create an improved ticketing experience for Fringe audiences.

We're pleased to announce the introduction of Apple Wallet and Google Wallet ticketing functionality ahead of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024.

This will enable audience members to instantly save e-tickets booked via the Fringe Box Office to their Apple Wallet or Google Wallet app. Downloaded tickets can then be easily accessed even in areas with limited internet coverage – a common issue in the city during the busy festival season. The new functionality will also enable users to more easily share tickets with friends (provided they each have the same Wallet app installed), for example if arriving at a show separately.

The announcement follows our reintroduction of the official EdFringe app in 2023, which provided planning and show discovery functionality alongside the ability to book shows on the go. The official EdFringe app is also set to return in 2024; both projects align with our commitment to digital evolution, enhancing the live Fringe experience by ensuring a world-class digital experience.

Development of the new wallet functionality has been made possible thanks to long-term sponsorship from Johnnie Walker Princes Street, whose support made the Fringe’s switch to e-ticketing possible in 2021. Our partnership with Johnnie Walker Princes Street has been essential in helping reduce paper usage at the festival, a key pillar of the Fringe development goals on climate action.

Shona McCarthy, Chief Executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, said: “We know from the feedback we’ve received that audience members are eager for this development, and we’re delighted to be able to provide it in time for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024. We’re incredibly appreciative of our friends at Johnnie Walker Princes Street for making it possible.”

Rob Maxwell, Head of Johnnie Walker Princes Street, said: “We are proud supporters of the Fringe and we’re delighted our involvement can support the introduction of this new functionality, which will not only improve audiences’ ticket-buying experience at the festival, but their overall experience via the enhanced sharing capability.

“2024 marks our third year as Fringe partners, and it’s set to be our biggest yet. We’ve a whole host of exciting plans to announce in the coming weeks that’ll ensure a visit to Johnnie Walker Princes Street is a must for any festival itinerary.”
