Community events

06 March 2025 Community
We regularly engage with community events around the city to ensure that the Fringe is a force for good in Edinburgh.

In the lead-up to the Fringe and during August we invite Fringe artists and street performers to community events and organisations across Edinburgh, providing a Fringe experience for local residents who may be unable to travel into the centre of town.

Fringe at…

Our Fringe at... events bring free Fringe performances and street performers out of the centre to entertain local people in their community. In the past, this has included:

  • taking a stage to the Broomhouse Street Party, showcasing a mixed bill of Fringe artists and community performers
  • working with Sikh Sanjog to put on a Fringe celebration
  • taking part in local community festivals including North Edinburgh Community Festival and Leith Gala Day.

The events are co-designed with individuals and groups from each community so that the line-ups reflect the tastes and choices of different demographics.

Neil Hay, CEO of Space @ The Broomhouse Hub, said: ‘We are extremely grateful to the Fringe and all the performers who came along, risked the weather and put on a fantastic show for Broomhouse and the communities of southwest Edinburgh. The Street Party always brings a bit of magic to the area, and this year was no exception. The feedback and comments have been extremely positive.

‘What this event does best is bring our communities together. For many, times are tough just now, so it was wonderful to see our values of being welcoming and supportive to all unfold with everyone sharing the experience as one.’

Fringe up your street

Our Fringe up your street project invited street performers and Fringe artists out to Edinburgh-based organisations such as hospitals, whose service users are unable or would find it difficult to attend in-person Fringe shows due to health, physical disability or mental health reasons. These events are dependent on external funding; previously, they have taken place at:

  • Capability Scotland
  • Cyrenians Farm
  • the Royal Edinburgh Hospital
  • the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.
