The Keep it Fringe fund was piloted in 2023, awarding 50 bursaries of £2,000 to individual artists or companies bringing work to the Fringe. Designed to be flexible and accessible, the bursaries could be spent on any costs associated with their show and there was no end-of-grant reporting required. As an initial pilot, the fund was restricted to UK applicants only; however, for 2025, we would like to introduce a US strand of the Keep it Fringe fund, helping US artists in their journey to the Fringe.

We have a strong representation from the US on Fringe stages, ranging from universities and colleges, who take students to Edinburgh to learn and develop their skills; independent artists at the beginning of their careers; to more established artists who return year after year. Some of our best-known alumni include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ruby Wax, Robin Williams, Mike Myers and David Schwimmer.

By supporting the US Keep it Fringe fund, you can support the future of the next Six! the musical and help us break barriers to give anyone a stage. As a founding supporter, we will acknowledge your support on this page, as well as within the press release announcing the fund.

As a special thank you to those who donate over $15,000 to the Keep it Fringe fund, we will acknowledge your support on this page, as well as inviting you to a special thank-you event in our new Fringe home when it opens in 2025.

An enormous Fringe Society thank you to our US Advisors: Chris Crouch, Ian Houston, Paul Innella, Molly Morris, Scott Plank and Ellen Tupman.

In April 2023, a small group of Fringe Society representatives – led by our Chief Executive, Shona McCarthy – visited New York City and Washington DC to forge and strengthen relationships with Fringe fans in the US.

The visit coincided with Tartan Week; in addition to participating in the incredible Tartan Day Parade, our team also met with individuals and organisations including Playbill, the UK Consul in New York, the British Embassy in Washington DC, the White House Historical Society and the American-Scottish Foundation.

Fringe Society and friends at the Tartan Day Parade

The trip was a fantastic success, with many new friendships struck up and promising plans made for the future of the Fringe. We'd like to thank everyone we met for the warm welcome we received. We were pleased to return to New York in January 2024 to take part in the International Society for Performing Arts Congress, and look forward to coming back in future.
