As you will be aware, the flooding in Pakistan continues to capture the attention of the world. This disaster has had a devastating effect – it has been reported that over twenty million people are now affected by the floods, with over twelve hundred people now dead.

The Scottish Government has taken a number of measures to support the ongoing relief efforts. The Minister for Culture and External Affairs is in regular contact with the Chair of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Scotland and the Consul General of Pakistan. The Scottish Government is strongly supportive of the DEC appeal and is working hard to raise awareness of the appeal. The Scottish Government’s website links directly to further information, and officials are in contact with a range of organisations to ensure they are coordinating their own responses to the disaster. More information on the DEC appeal is available at http://www.dec.org.uk/donate_now or you can call the Appeal Line on 0370 6060 900.
