This year, the Primary Times Children’s Choice review panel celebrated six successive years of watching some of the best family theatre at the largest and most exciting arts festival in the world. At these children’s shows young minds have been educated, entertained and engaged by truly enriching storytelling and performances. And once again, it was time for family audiences and the Primary Times review panel to be enlightened with a whole host of amusing stories at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Primary Times team added informative and unbiased reviews to its website throughout the duration of the festival.

We selected a large, broad selection of shows to review, covering our age range (4–12 years). We have a point scoring system to ensure our reviewers – both adults and children – give a consistent and fair score. If a show scores a ten, our reviewers add an extra paragraph of explanation on why they think it’s exceptional. If there's a draw, a panel of three review the drawn shows again and select a winner from this shortlist. The winner receives a Primary Times Children's Choice award trophy, social media coverage across all platforms, a write-up in the magazine and, if showing again the following year at the Edinburgh Fringe, promotions in the summer magazine to help ticket sales.

Read what our reviewers had to say at primarytimes.co.uk. The best show was presented with the coveted Primary Times Children’s Choice Award 2019 by Director of Primary Times Edinburgh, Linda Edwards, at a short ceremony in mid-August.
